Legendary publisher and editor Barney Rosset founded Grove Press and Evergreen Review and published, among many others, such authors as Samuel Beckett, William S. Burroughs, Henry Miller, Malcolm X, Tom Stoppard, Jack Kerouac, Jorge Luis Borges, Jean Genet, Eugène Ionesco, Federico García Lorca, and Kenzaburō Ōe.

Her face was smeared with soot.
She said her name was Stina Groth.
A cloud of bats burst from the chimney
of a crumbling cottage behind her.
We asked her where home was.
She drew a circle in the silt with a twig.
